Tech Tip #34 Guest Wi-Fi

Tip # 34

TECH TIP TUESDAYS!

Every Tuesday, we’re breaking down quick, helpful info about all things tech—because let’s face it, the internet isn’t always easy to understand.

Let’s go! 👇

Before the Cookout, Check the Wi-Fi

By Olivia Wells, Marketer at LigTel

Summer cookouts usually come with a checklist.

Food? Check.
Drinks? Check.
Chairs? Check.
Wi-Fi ready for guests? Maybe worth a quick look.

Today’s homes have more connected devices than ever. According to Parks Associates research, the average U.S. internet household has about 17 connected devices.

That number adds up fast when you count phones, tablets, laptops, smart TVs, gaming systems, speakers, cameras, watches, and streaming devices.

Add a few guests during a cookout or family get-together, and your Wi-Fi may be hosting the party too.

The good news? With fiber internet and tools like CommandIQ and ExperienceIQ, you have simple ways to see what’s connected and manage your home network.

Why a Guest Network Helps

When people come over, someone is probably going to ask for the Wi-Fi password.

Instead of sharing your main network password, a guest network lets you create a separate Wi-Fi connection just for visitors. Guests can get online, while your main home network stays private.

Even better, setting up a guest network is free and available through the CommandIQ app.

A guest network is helpful for:

  • Cookouts
  • Birthday parties
  • Family get-togethers
  • Sleepovers
  • Holiday gatherings
  • Friends stopping by

You can create a simple Wi-Fi name and password for guests, share it during the party, and turn it off when you no longer need it.

No more reading your main password across the room. No more wondering who still has it saved from last summer.

What Else Can You Check?

Before guests arrive, it’s also a good time to look at the devices connected to your home Wi-Fi.

You may notice an old tablet, a gaming system, a smart TV, or other devices that are still connected.

That does not mean anything is wrong. It just helps you better understand what is on your network.

For even more control, ExperienceIQ gives you smart family features like:

  • Pause internet with one tap
  • Set screen time limits by person or device
  • Create custom profiles for family members
  • Set schedules for certain devices
  • Filter inappropriate websites

So, if the kids’ tablets need paused during dinner or certain devices need a schedule, you can manage that right from your phone.

Good to know: ExperienceIQ is included with all of our internet bundles. If you have a regular speed package, you can add it to your existing internet plan for $7/month.

Setting up a guest network is quick and simple.

In this week’s Tech Tip video, we’ll show you how to create a guest Wi-Fi network so visitors can connect without using your main home password.

It is one small step that can make hosting a little easier.

Before the burgers hit the grill, take a quick look at your Wi-Fi.

Your guests may thank you before they even ask for the password.
