Does Fiber Internet Increase Home Value? Studies Say Yes

By Olivia Wells, Marketer at LigTel

When people think about adding value to a home or business, they usually think about things they can see.

Fresh paint.
New flooring.
Updated windows.
Better parking.
Curb appeal.

But there’s another feature that matters more than ever:

Reliable, high-speed internet.

Today, internet access is not just a nice bonus. It affects how people work, learn, stream, communicate, run businesses, use smart devices, and stay connected.

That’s why fiber internet can be such a strong selling point.

Studies show that fiber access can have a positive impact on home value.

The Brattle Group, in partnership with the Fiber Broadband Association, found that fiber deployment was associated with a 14% increase in non-urban median housing values and a 17% increase in urban median housing values compared to areas without fiber.

That does not mean every home will increase by the exact same amount. Home values still depend on location, market conditions, the property itself, and many other factors.

But it does show something important:

People value strong internet access.

CNET compared fiber internet to an amenity that improves quality of life, similar to how a pool, updated kitchen, or other home feature can make a property more appealing. As more of our daily lives move online, strong internet access is no longer just convenient. It affects how people work, learn, communicate, stream, run businesses, use smart devices, and stay connected.

That is why homes and businesses with fiber available may have an advantage. Buyers are not only looking at what a property offers today. They are also thinking about whether it can support the way they live and work in the future.

For many people, fiber helps answer that question. It shows that a property is ready for remote work, online learning, streaming, gaming, security systems, smart technology, business tools, and whatever comes next.

A home with fiber already available may stand out to buyers who work from home, stream TV, game online, use smart home devices, have kids doing schoolwork, or rely on security cameras.

It’s also something local realtors can highlight when selling a home. Reliable high-speed internet is no longer just a nice extra, it’s a feature many buyers are actively looking for.

It matters for businesses, too

Fiber can be just as important for businesses.

A reliable connection helps support the tools businesses use every day, including:

card readers
phones
security systems
guest Wi-Fi
online ordering
cloud-based software
video calls
scheduling systems
email and communication

When a business has fiber available, it is better prepared for the way business is done today.

It can also make a commercial property more appealing to future buyers or tenants who need dependable connectivity from day one.

The main thing to remember

Fiber internet is more than fast speed. It is infrastructure that can help your home or business keep up with the way people live and work today. As technology continues to change, homes and businesses are using more connected devices, relying more on cloud-based tools, and expecting stronger connections for everyday life.

That is why fiber is a feature worth mentioning if you are selling a home, renting a property, promoting a business space, or thinking about long-term value. Buyers and renters are not just looking at countertops, square footage, or curb appeal anymore. They are also asking if they can work from home, stream, run a business, use smart devices, and stay connected without frustration.

Fiber helps make the answer yes.

At LigTel, we have invested in fiber because we believe connection means more here, for families, businesses, and the future of our communities.
