How LigTel’s ProtectIQ Works Behind the Scenes

Ever notice how much more time we spend online during the holidays?
Between gift shopping, delivery updates, extra screen time at home, and smart devices running in the background, almost everything flows through your home network, often without you even thinking about it. Even things like outdoor cameras are constantly running, yet most of us never stop to think about whether they have any protection at all.
That’s why recently, we made a quiet decision behind the scenes. We added an extra layer of protection for our customers who have our router (Managed Wi-Fi), not as an add-on or upgrade, but simply because it felt like the right thing to do.
The holidays also bring more ads, more pop-ups, and more “too good to be true” links. Many of those never even reach your screen. They’re stopped before they load. You may not notice it happening at all, and honestly, that’s kind of the point.
Many providers charge extra for this type of protection. We chose to make it part of the experience instead, because peace of mind during a busy season and all year long shouldn’t feel optional.
So what is ProtectIQ, exactly?
It’s built-in protection that quietly monitors activity on your home Wi-Fi and blocks suspicious connections before they ever reach your devices.
If you’ve never clicked into ProtectIQ before, don’t worry, you won’t break anything. Here’s what it looks like inside the CommandIQ app.
If you also have our Wi-Fi extenders paired with your router, even better, and yes, we really do recommend them. They’re designed to work with our router, not alongside it. Third-party extenders often don’t communicate the same way, which can cause interference and make it feel like your internet isn’t working as well as it should. Our goal isn’t to sell you another box, it’s to help you build the best possible home Wi-Fi network. I’ll be sharing a deeper dive into this soon with our Chief Technology Officer, Josh Wentworth, in an upcoming blog.
We’ve provided you with the tools to have a safe home network. We want you to feel safe, secure, and connected this holiday season and beyond.

ProtectIQ helps block new threats and suspicious activity on your network, but it doesn’t remove malware or viruses that are already on a device. If a device is infected, you’ll want to clean it up using antivirus software or a trusted repair service.
